Haridwar is the point where Ganga emerges from the Himalayas to begin its progress across the plains. Legend has placed gods’ footprints on the bank of Holy River. There are two great events that take place at Haridwar – Kumbh Mela (Kumbh Fair) which happens once every 12 years and the Ardh Kumbh, which comes once every six years. On the other hand, Rishikesh is ideal for pilgrims as well as for those who want to delve deeper into meditation, Yoga and other aspects of Hinduism. Compared to Haridwar, Rishikesh is more tranquil and offers some of the best meditation spots. A number of Ashrams (hermitages) offer Yoga and meditation courses for those in quest of spiritual fulfillment.
